Day 7, Wednesday May 18th, 2016

Woke up to a great breakfast with Mylene. Oh, that St Nectare cheese!

It was rainy today, but that's Normandy. We set off for Pegasus Bridge at Benouville. The Gondree cafe, along with a modern replica bridge are well maintained at the location of the historic battle of Major Howard's D Company, Ox and Bucks Gliders, 6th Airborne Division.

We had lunch in the cafe. Lots of memorabilia here.

Outside the cafe.

Here's the little strip of land that Howard's three gliders landed on, right near the bridge.

The replacement bridge today. A near-perfect replica of the original.

And the original, restored and placed just a few hundred meters away.

You can still see battle damage on the original bridge.

The museum has a great model display of the assault.

And lots of gear.

A replica Horsa at the museum.

Lots to see here. We had a nice day-trip to this site.

When we went back to the B&B to pick up laundry, we got a flat tire in the driveway as we were backing out. Bummer. There was a tire change, then a trip to the Renault garage to order a replacement. Eventually, we made it into town, and Kimberley got the laundry going. She also bought a nifty new raincoat.

For dinner, we hit an Italian place in Courselles sur Mere. La Pergola. Great pizza.

We sat next to a couple from Picardy who spoke no English. However, we had a great conversation with them for two hours using Google Translate. This fellow's dad was captured by the Germans in 1940 while stationed on the Maginot Line. His grandfather fought at Verdun and received a medal there. He doesn't look it, but this guy was 67 years old. Him, not me...

Had a coffee after dinner. Stupid...stupid.
