Day 19, Thursday May 17, 2012

We left Spain (sadly), and drove into southern France for our transit to Italy. We stopped at Nimes and saw the coliseum there. Of the hundreds of known Roman coliseums, this one in Nimes is the best preserved.

These days it is used for bull fights.

We spent a long time here, took the audio tour, learned about gladiator fights and was generally amazed by how big this structure was.

Next we drove to Saint Remy de Provence. This area of France is known for its bridges.

Well, we arrived at today's "country hotel." This one actually turned out to be our Faulty Towers experience for the trip. The proprietor thought it was a little bit better and fancier than it actually was. Fortunately, we had an OK room with a nice sun porch.

Today was a bank holiday, and also the first day of the start of tourist season. Needless to say, Saint Remy was crawling with people. We walked into town and Kimberley...did a little shopping.

We found a nice out-of-the-way restaurant and I had some really good celery soup.

Back at the hotel, it was time for a little hand laundry session.
