Europe 2012

This blog is a chronicle of trips away from home. My name is Kevin Barrett, and my wife is Kimberley. We live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

First up is our European adventure: end of April to early June, 2012. Six weeks abroad.

A couple of things...

  • Kimberley and I left Edmonton on Saturday, April 28th, and returned on Saturday, June 9th, 2012.
  • We arrived in Paris and after a few days, rented a car. We drove through France, into Spain, and then across southern France into Italy. Wound up putting about 5500 KM on the rental.
  • I wanted to drive the trip because of many years watching the Tour de France...the countryside looked awesome, and I wanted to see the towns, hills and rivers from the cyclist's point of view.
  • The major areas we hit over the six weeks were:
    • Paris
    • Normandy
    • Loire Valley
    • Dordogne Valley
    • Carcassonne
    • Priorat county, Catalonia
    • Provence
    • Genoa
    • Firenze
    • Tuscany
    • Rome
  • We love to cook...we took cooking lessons in Priorat and Tuscany.
  • Favorite locations: Tuscany, Normandy and Priorat.
Now, on to the travelogue.
